In 1881, Rafael Guastavino built in Vilassar de Dalt the theater La Massa in the courtyard behind the building of the promoter entity. For Guastavino this building implied the use, for the first time on a large scale, of the traditional technique called “volta catalana”. Thanks to this experience, he and his team built more than two thousand domes around the world using the same technique. Therefore, with the project for the rehabilitation and restoration of La Massa it was necessary to troubleshoot various aspects. It was necessary to restablish its prominence as cultural heritage by providing the theatre with a new entrance that directly connected to the town. As well as this, it was also necessary a new stage suitable for contemporary scenographies and to highlight the importance of its architectural technique.
